» Premiership talent get messy

Things got messy in Auckland on Thursday as the build-up to the 2015-16 ASB Premiership continued just under a month out from the first game of the new season.

Players from all around the country travelled to a studio in Henderson to film the colourful SKY Sport promotional campaign for the league with some of the country’s best footballers leaving their mark in a myriad of vivid paint colours.

Team Wellington’s Cole Peverley, WaiBOP United’s Mark Jones, Southern United’s Jude Fitzpatrick, Canterbury United defender Dan Terris, Waitakere United midfielder Jake Butler, Hawke’s Bay United’s Fin Milne, Wellington Phoenix goalkeeper Oliver Sail and All Whites and Auckland City legend Ivan Vicelich were all part of the shoot.

With under 30 days to go until the first ball is kicked when Waitakere United meet Auckland City at QBE Stadium in the first of 32 live televised games on SKY Sport, Peverley says his side can’t wait for the season to get underway.

“We’re really excited and there are lot of young players in the squad who can’t wait to get in front of the TV and on the football pitch,” Peverley said.

“The pre-season training is going well and the team is coming together nicely, it’s a young side but a very good side.”
Peverley said Thursday’s shoot was an entertaining mix of football and art and he’s looking forward to seeing the finished product on screen.

“It was really good fun and I enjoyed myself,” Peverley said. “The guys are doing a good job and think the ad will be special for the league.”

New Zealand age-group and Wellington Phoenix goalkeeper Sail echoed Peverley’s thoughts and he’s keen to get going in the new season.

“It’s pretty exciting,” Sail said. “It’s another opportunity for both young and experienced footballers to express themselves in a national competition and it adds something extra special now that it’s televised and there will be a little bit of extra media attention.”
