» Northern 2-0 WaiBOP

WaiBOP has finished the 2015 ASB Women’s League in much the same way they did in 2014 – with three consecutive defeats.

Our play-off hopes were dashed last weekend, so the pressure was off for the game against Northern. While the hosts had much of the play we had our moments, particularly through Paige Satchell who continued to be one of the league’s most threatening attacking outlets.

Northern scored twice in the second half through Belinda van Noorden and New Zealand U-20 representative Emma Rolston to second place and hosting rights for next week’s Preliminary Final. But we had opportunities to open the scoring, with the best coming on the hour mark when Satchell was denied in a one-on-one with Northern’s keeper.

Northern will meet the NZF Development side in next week’s Preliminary Final after the youngsters snatched a 1-0 victory over Auckland Football in the second game of the double header at QBE Stadium Oval.

Many of our players now turn their attention to the National Age Group Tournament, in which they’ll be defending the U-16 title. We also wish captain, Kate Loye, all the best for her trip to Brazil with the Football Ferns.
