WaiBOP ended their 2013 ASB Women’s League campaign with a fighting performance against table toppers Northern Football.
Northern won the match 1-0 with a freak goal in the 50th minute from former Junior Football Fern Tayla O’Brien whose 30-metre shot struck the crossbar, shot high into the air and then spun into the goal when it bounced in the goalmouth.
Aside from that goal, honours were even in the match at Parr’s Park, West Auckland, with both sides going close with chances, and end to end football in soaring heat.
The win ensures Northern goes straight into the Grand Final in a fortnight while the loss means WaiBOP finish the season in sixth place on the eight-team ladder.
